The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has started a new era in human rights protection. In the past years, we have witnessed an exciting increase in understanding of deaf people’s rights as human rights. International community governments and deaf associations around the world are striving for the recognition of Deaf people’s rights and, in particularly, recognition for sign languages and deaf culture. World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) had an enormous impact on the Convention by advocating and negotiating important articles that relate to Deaf people’s rights. WFD continues to have an important role in safeguarding Deaf People’s involvement in all Convention processes that are relevant to Deaf people. WFD also represents the Deaf Community at the United Nations (UN) level. To enable us to continue with this important human rights work, WFD is asking you to join the efforts. WFD’s human rights work relies on your donations. Your support will assure that Deaf people are an important part of the global movement and their rights continue to be promoted. Sign languages and deaf culture are, indeed, a natural part of global human diversity.
